Our School

Peartree is a one-form entry primary school in Welwyn Garden City. Our historic school has been welcoming pupils for nearly a hundred years and is at the heart of the local community it serves. Our dedicated staff and active governing body are committed to giving children the best possible education.

We are proud of our nurturing, inclusive ethos that encourages all our children to excel. Our core curriculum is supported by a wide range of extracurricular activities designed to provide a well-rounded education for Peartree children, so that they leave us with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in the modern world.

Children love our extensive outdoor facilities, including several playgrounds, a pond and woodland area. We offer regular Forest School sessions, run by qualified staff, which teach children important life skills such as resilience, determination and cooperation. Peartree has been awarded the Gold Early Years Quality Mark for our Early Years provision and we also hold the Silver Science Quality Mark.

Our History

Peartree opened its doors in January 1927 with 91 children. Within five years, numbers had grown to more than 500 pupils.

Towards the end of World War Two, Peartree’s then headteacher was heavily involved in the government’s plans to revitalise education and it became a show school, attracting visitors from around the world.

We have been a key part of the local community throughout our history and our school has retained its unique village atmosphere, with many of our families attending over several generations.

In 2022, we joined Ivy Learning Trust, a family of schools in Enfield and Hertfordshire who work together to provide a better education for the children they serve.

Our Future

We are delighted to have been selected for the government’s School Rebuilding Programme, which means that Peartree will be either completely rebuilt or renovated over the coming years to provide state-of-the-art facilities.

The new look Peartree will be more eco-friendly, with modern facilities to serve our community for generations to come and ensure that pupils receive a world class education. Find out more about our new build.
