Overview

School governors are ordinary people from the local community who wish to make a positive contribution to children’s education. They are the largest volunteer force in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. Governors are not involved in the day-to-day management of the school.

Almost anyone can become a school governor and you can find out more information here. All new governors receive training and support from Ivy Learning Trust and their fellow governors. If you are interested in assisting the school in this way, please contact governance@ivylearningtrust.org.

Governor Profiles

All governors are voting members of the Local Governing Board. Panels and working groups are established as needed, but there are no ongoing committees.

Maureen Gregory

Chair of Governors

I retired from The Department of Work and Pensions in 2021 after many years as a senior leader in Programme and Project Management and in Procurement. I have considerable experience of governance in the work environment and feel this is a skill set that I can bring as a Governor to Peartree School.

I have many interests in the community including singing with the WGC Rock Choir! I am a Dementia Friends Champion and a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Society. I have an interest in helping WGC become a Dementia Friendly Community and have established links with WelHat Dementia Action Alliance. Peartree is my local JMI school and was attended by my grandson.

Simon Cragg

Vice Chair of Governors

I am a Minister and Trustee at Christchurch Baptist Church in the Peartree area and, having already established some links with the school, I was keen to build on that and do what I could to offer support to the school. I am used to dealing with a whole host of leadership and personal issues including public communication, line management, chairing meetings, appraisals, setting up new projects, recruiting and managing volunteers, and counselling. I thoroughly belief in what this school has to offer for every pupil in terms of quality education and holistic learning, and am delighted to be part of a governing body that supports the school to achieve that.

Ben Statham

Executive Headteacher

I have worked in schools and on local governing bodies for the past 25 years. I am keen to make sure that every decision we make as an LGB has the children’s interest at the very heart of it and believe that we have a responsibility to create a learning environment where every child feels happy and safe.

I am currently Executive Headteacher across Peartree and Eastfield Primary School in Enfield. Prior to this I have been a headteacher and deputy headteacher for the past decade, across four schools, including working overseas.

Katie Carter

Staff Governor

I have taught at Peartree since 2019 and love being part of our wonderful school community. Currently, I am teaching in our Reception class but I have experience of teaching across all key stages. I am passionate about the teaching of reading and earlier this year, I was delighted to take on the role of joint Phonics and Early Reading Lead. It has been fantastic to see the incredible progress our children are making and to work more closely with staff and pupils across the school. I am excited to be part of the Governing Body and hope to use my experience to help support Peartree continue to build on its many successes.

Daniella Broomes

Trust Appointed

I have 14 years’ experience working with children and young people in mainstream and special educational need schools. I am currently a Development Officer within a community charity in Hertfordshire. In my spare time I am the founder and chair of two community groups one of which is countywide and the other covers Welwyn and Hatfield. Most recently I have been appointed Community Advisor and Hate Crime Champion (third party reporting and supporting those affected by hate crime) for Welwyn Hatfield.

I am dedicated and passionate about supporting people and tackling big community challenges. Children are where it all begins, giving them a space to feel secure and confident in their environment is how they begin to thrive. I believe that a representational curriculum and presence could help bridge the gap of achievement. I understand the importance of raising standards for all children especially those from our ethnically diverse communities. Amongst my support as a governor, I would like to ensure that diversity, inclusion and equity is both supported and celebrated.

Val Luckins

Trust Appointed

I retired three years ago after working for many years as a specialist speech and language therapist. Once I retired, after a few months break, I started coming in to Peartree weekly to support children with their reading. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the school and staff, and have now been a governor since September. I would like to be able to use some of my experience and knowledge and be part of Peartree’s future. Besides, I have had four children, and now three grandchildren, so I still have a vested interest in the future of the education system.

Sue Wilson

Trust Appointed

I have been working in the sports leisure industry for over 20 years and have a wide range of skills in areas such as sport & recreation and facilities management, including holding a CIEH qualification in Health & Safety. I enjoy school governance as I enjoy being part of the team and learning about the structures and policies that are in place. The training courses that I have attended have been very interesting and have given me good insight.
